Best Audiobooks to Listen to on a Road Trip
Do you need some way to entertain yourself on a long drive? Audiobooks are a great option to listen to during road trips. No matter what kind of mood you’re in, there’s a book you’ll love!
I recommend getting an Audible membership. For $7.95 a month, you have access to their catalog of audiobooks to choose from, or for $14.95 a month, you can download one audiobook a month that isn’t included in the catalog.
If you have a library card, another great option is to use the apps Libby and/or Hoopla! After creating an account and linking your library card, you will have access to all of the audiobooks your library has available. Just like a physical library, if the book you want isn’t available, you can put a hold on it and they’ll notify you once it’s your turn. This is a great option to keep your costs down (because let’s be real, gas is already expensive enough!)
Here are some great choices that you can download for your next road trip.

Feeling adventurous? Go on a journey in these fantasy and sci-fi books:
- The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss – if you have a LONG road trip, this 28 hour coming of age story would be the perfect way to spend your time on the road.
- Red Rising by Pierce Brown – if you are more into science fiction rather than fantasy, give the Red Rising series a try. In my opinion, this book is a great combination of Ender’s Game and The Hunger Games.
- The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune – if you want to listen to something more low stakes and cozy, this book would be a great option. T.J. Klune is great at throwing some life lessons in their books while still keeping the vibes cozy.
Need a little romance in your life? Here are a few good romance options:
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – if you are into historical fiction, then this book is up your alley. The author writes Evelyn’s life story so well, I still have a hard time remembering she’s not a real person.
- The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab – if you aren’t a huge fan of fantasy and may also need to cry a little then this book would be perfect.
- Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin – if you love a coming of age story, video games, and a little romance then this book should definitely be your next listen.
Are you a true crime junkie? Try solving these mysteries:
- The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides – if you’re newer to the Mystery/Thriller genre, this book will blow your mind! I definitely did not see the plot twist coming and enjoyed every minute of this book.
- The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman – if you like your mysteries with a side of humor, you’re going to love this book about a group of senior citizens that come together to solve a murder.
- Home Before Dark by Riley Sager – if you’re in the mood for some haunted house vibes, then this would be the book for you.
